The offered PhD Position in Biomaterial Chemistry is available at the Department of Chemistry, Division of Organic Chemistry (www.chemie.boku.ac.at/365.html), University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, Austria. Your place of work will be at the new University and Research Center Tulln (www.boku.ac.at/boku-tulln.html).
The Austrian/French project "CAP-BONE: Tailoring of cellulosic aerogels for biomedical applications" funded by The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) and the French l'Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR) is aiming to further develop cellulosic aerogels as a comparatively novel type of lightweight, highly porous biomaterials and a promising matrix for tissue engineering or controlled release applications.
- A Diploma or Master degree in Organic Chemistry or a related discipline, with a background in process engineering and material physics.
- Strong interest in biomaterials chemistry, good background in organic synthesis, process engineering (processing in supercritical fluids), chemical analysis (NMR, GPC, GC/MS), basic background in material testing (porosity, solid structure, surface characterisation, sorption/desorption behavior, mechanical parameters).
- Good command of written and spoken English and dedication to experimental work.
We offer a scientifically stimulating atmosphere within an international team of about 25 researchers and well-equipped modern laboratories and offices.
The fellowship will be available for 3 years from 1 March 2012.
Applicants are asked to submit their CV, detailed description of previous academic and scientific activities, a summary of the master thesis (5 pages), a photo, the names and contact addresses (e-mail) of two academic referees to Dr. Falk Liebner: email@example.com
