Pre-announcement

Chemistry Research Grants

First ERA-Chemistry Open Initiative 2008/2009

26 February 2008

ERA-Chemistry (www.erachemistry.net) is pleased to pre-announce the 1st trans-national Open Initiative to fund proposals in curiosity-driven chemistry research.

ERA-Chemistry is a network of 14 research councils from 12 European countries with a goal to develop and implement joint bottom-up European programmes. The network is focused on establishing European collaboration in curiosity-driven research in chemistry and neighbouring disciplines without national or formal boundaries.

Who can apply?
Chemists from Austria, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Portugal and Spain, eligible to apply for financial support from their national research funding organisations1) will be invited to apply within any chemistry-related subject2). A joint application should be submitted by two researchers from different participating countries. These researchers should carry out the project in the respective country financing their participation.

What is the application procedure?
There will be a two-stage procedure involving pre-proposals and full proposals. All pre-proposals must be submitted via the electronic web portal not later than 30 May 2008. All successful applicants from the pre-proposal stage will be invited to submit their comprehensive full proposals not later than 17 November 2008.

The projects will be funded for three years starting from early spring 2009.

More information and the guidelines for applicants will be available before 16 April 2008 on the ERA-Chemistry website www.erachemistry.net as well as on the websites of the participating national funding organisations.
