Ziel
The aim of this EUROCORES Programme is twofold:

(i) to jointly attack basic but difficult problems summarized under the name 'Graphs in Geometry and Algorithms'. EuroGIGA will bundle the strengths of European research to conduct fundamental studies on this topic, which is currently carried out either separately by local European expert groups, in occasional joint work between these groups or single persons, or on a bilateral project basis. The European-wide collaboration announced by this Call is being undertaken in view of the fact that various problems in this field are notoriously difficult though important, and might be solved only by serious common efforts, and researchers from the fields of Geometry, Graph Theory, and Computer Science are expected to contribute to this effort.
(ii) to foster collaboration and cross-fertilization with application areas where geometric graphs and algorithms play a role, like combinatorial optimization, geographic information systems, computer-aided design, robotics, or image analysis.

Inhalt
To address the objectives EuroGIGA invites research proposals that deal with-but are not limited to-the following topics:

(i) Drawing graphs;
(ii) Geometric representations of graphs;
(iii) Skeletal structures and spatial decompositions;
(iv) Combinatorics of discrete point sets;
(v) Graphs of polytopal structures;
