Senior Scientist

at the Department of Food Chemistry and Toxicology

The group of Prof. Marko at the Institute of Food Chemistry and Toxicology at the faculty of Chemistry is dedicated to studies on cellular mechanisms of food constituents. The compound spectrum compromises potentially bioactive secondary plant metabolites (polyphenols), contaminants e.g. mycotoxins up to nanoparticles. In focus are potentially desirable cellular effects such as anticarcinogenic or antioxidative properties as well as application-limiting toxicologically relevant effects. Within the group a Zeiss Elyra PS.1 system equipped with PALM and SIM as well as equipment for life cell imaging is available. The advertised position is focused primarily to establish and conduct mechanistic studies by confocal microscopy.

 

Extent of Employment: 40 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 lit. b (postdoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.

 

Job Description:

The position is dedicated to studies on molecular mechanisms of food constituents (e.g. polyphenols, contaminants, nanoparticles) with special emphasis on (superresolution) confocal microscopy and life cell imaging techniques. The position is a central interface for interdisciplinary cooperations in the field of cellular toxicity and confocal microscopy. The position comprises active contribution to research, teaching and administration, which implies establishing and developing of an independent research profile, contribution to research projects, international publication and lecturing activities, writing of grant applications, independent lecturing activity within the regulations of the wage agreement, contribution to evaluation and quality control activities as well as contribution to research, teaching and institutes administration.

 

Profile:

- Master/diploma in chemistry, biology or related discipline

- doctorate/PhD

- Experience abroad in Englisch speaking country

- Experience with confocal microscopy and life cell imaging

- Sound education in toxicology

- Experience in human cell culture

- Experience to recruit third party funding

- Team working ability

 

In addition we expect:

Teaching experience, experience in contributing to research projects, publication in peer-reviewed journals and international conference contributions. Knowledge of processes and structures of the university would be desirable as well as working experience abroad and experience in working with students.
