Post-doctoral positions in ENDOCRINOLOGY: Trans-generational modifications to pancreas development
- Molecular Neurosciences
- Center for Brain Research / MedUni Vienna
The Harkany laboratory at the Medical University of Vienna announces vacancies (2x) at the level of “postdoctoral fellow” within an ERC-funded work program. The successful applicants are expected to significantly contribute to and expand our studies on developmental rules defining cellular heterogeneity in the endocrine pancreas. On-going studies focus on identifying mechanisms extending beta-cell survival and/or increasing cellular transdifferentiation (see, e.g., Malenczyk et al., EMBOJ (2017), PNAS (2015), Li et al., Cell (2017)) also by modulating the activity of autonomic innervation of the pancreas. Future studies will bear significant components of pathophysiology, particularly manipulation of metabolic status during pregnancy. Talented and committed applicants are expected to hold a PhD degree and relevant research qualifications. Detailed and documented knowledge of endocrine development, advanced imaging (either at super-resolution or by light-sheet microscopy in optically-cleared tissues), molecular metabolism or beta-cell pathobiology is considered a critical advantage. The work program will include a combination of experiments by mouse genetics and molecular pathology in humans. Applicants can express their interest by sending their documents (including CV and 2 letters of references) via email (to Ms. Anna Exinger (anna.exinger(at)meduniwien.ac.at)). The position is open for 3 years on the basis of performance-based annual renewal. Deadline for applications is January 31, 2018.
