- Microbial genetics, secondary metabolite biosynthesis
- Department of Pharmacognosy, University of Vienna
We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join, for 1.5 years, a research team working in the field of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology and focused on drug discovery from natural sources, including microorganisms and plants. Your work will comprise characterization of Streptomyces bacteria, including production of bioactive secondary metabolites, identification and cloning of secondary metabolite biosynthesis genes, and genetic manipulation of Streptomyces aimed at increasing the yield of bioactive compounds. Requirements: PhD degree in Microbiology, Molecular Genetics, or related fields (e.g. Biochemistry, Molecular Biology). Methodological competence in modern molecular cloning techniques, microbiological handling and genetic manipulation of Streptomyces bacteria are a must. Basic IT user skills of MS Office, bioinformatic tools used in genome analyses and in silico gene manipulation (e.g. antiSMASH, Clone Manager) are essential, as are good communication skills (written and spoken) in English and basic knowledge of German. Experience in isolation and characterization of secondary metabolites is highly desirable.
