A PhD student position is currently available at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Lung Vascular Research (LBI-LVR), Graz, Austria. The LBI-LVR is a collaborative research centre, which combines basic and translational aspects of chronic lung disease.
The research project focuses on morphologic characterisation of the lung and heart as well as the identification of pathologic changes with chronic lung diseases. The primary task will be the development of algorithms for the identification of individual structures in thoracic CT images. The research project is funded for three years with an option for extension and will be carried out in cooperation with the Institute of Computer Graphics and Vision (ICG) at Graz University of Technology and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Clinical-Forensic Imaging (LBI-CFI).
The applicants must have a relevant background in computer science, applied mathematics or biomedical engineering, which must be sufficiently documented in the application and shown by a respective master’s degree. Their research interest should fit within existing activities in medical image processing and analysis. The project will require excellent programming skills in C++; knowledge of VTK and ITK libraries as well as TensorFlow is preferred. Furthermore, very good spoken and written English is essential for the position.
We offer a 30h per week work contract and a gross salary of € 2,112.40 per month (14 times per year).
The research will be carried out under Dr. Martin Urschler, who is a key researcher at the LBI-CFI and an affiliated lecturer at the ICG (main research interests: medical image analysis and machine learning applied to clinical and forensic medicine applications) and PD Dr. Gabor Kovacs, who is a key researcher at the LBI-LVR and a clinical doctor at the University Clinic Graz (main research interest: early and non-invasive diagnosis of pulmonary vascular diseases).
