Overview
One of the FWF's most important goals is to promote the internationalisation of basic research in Austria by taking special organisational measures, creating suitable framework conditions, and offering concrete funding instruments for this purpose.
The "News" section provides up-to-date information (mostly in german) on call deadlines for international collaborative research activities.
The "Funding categories" section contains descriptions of specific funding programmes and initiatives carried out in direct cooperation with partner agencies abroad. These cooperation arrangements generally provide funding for cross-border research activities.
The "Participation in international programmes" section provides information on network and infrastructure programmes which give researchers in Austria the opportunity to take part in cross-border initiatives, most of which are funded externally.
The European Science Foundation (ESF) is one of the FWF's most important international partner organisations. One result of this partnership is the ESF-FWF Research Conferences on current topics in science; these conferences are held at the University of Innsbruck five times per year.
The European Commission's ERA-Net Initiative serves to promote cross-border networking and coordination among national research funding programmes. In this context, the FWF focuses on activities which create a discernible added value for the Austrian scientific community.
The establishment of the European Research Council (ERC) was a milestone in the funding of scientific research activities in Europe. The FWF contributes its expertise to this organisation at different levels and acts as an interface between the Austrian scientific community and the ERC.
EUROHORCs is a group of representatives of European research funding organisations and a key actor in the field of European research policy.
