Career development for female scientists

The FWF is offering extremely well qualified female scientists who are working towards a career in universities the chance of a two-stage funding for a total of six years.

The career development programme for female scientists is divided into the Hertha Firnberg Programme for post-docs, which aims to support women at the start of their scientific careers, and the Elise Richter Programme for senior post-docs, which aims at providing scientists with the necessary qualifications to apply for professorial positions within Austria or abroad.

Hertha Firnberg Program

Target group Highly qualified female scientists of any scientific discipline, who have completed their university studies
Goals

Improvement of the career prospects for women in universities

very generous support for women at the start of their scientific careers or on its resumption following maternity leave
Requirements
completed doctoral studies
international scientific publications
aged 40 or under at the time of application, or at most 4 years of postdoc experience, allowance is made for time spent raising children
Length 36 months
Level EUR 56.110 personnel costs per year plus
EUR 8,000 for material, travel, assistance etc.

2 calls a year in spring/autumn

19.10.2009 to 18.12.2009

Allocation
by the FWF Board based on an international review process
in the June Board meeting (for fall call), in the December Board meeting (for spring call)
