Priority Research Programs

National Research Networks (NFN)

Target group Scientists of any discipline

who are working in Austrian universities and

non profit-making, extra-university research establishments
Goals Promotion of the establishment of "priority" research areas, generally by building up nation-wide research networks for the multidisciplinary, distributed and medium-term work on large-scale research projects
Requirements
already available research potential
Austria-wide packaging of scientific activities related to a single theme, may also be locally restricted
"added value" to be derived from the formation of an NFN as opposed to separate activities
Length 8 years, an interim review after 4 years decides on continuation
Level on average EUR 600,000 per year, different for different NFN
Applications
accepted continuously, 1 Nov. 2007: submission deadline for intiatives on which a decision should be taken in the last board meeting 2008
in English
Allocation once a year in the last board meeting by the FWF Board based on an international review process
