As a researcher I am interested in the widest and most unrestricted dissemination of my publications possible. That is the very concept of Open Access. Open Access is also beneficial for readers by preventing that numerous interested people inside and outside the scientific community have no access to research results which were obtained mainly with public money. We are now at a stage where the technical potential of the internet enforces a change of the business model in scientific publishing: from the subscription-based model where the reader is paying to a model where the author is paying. This transition should be brought about as swiftly as possible.
