University Assistant (prae doc)

at the Department of Organic Chemistry

The Department of Organic Chemistry is looking for a university assistant (prae doc) for teaching and research in the field of spectroscopic and wetchemical investigations of natural products. The successful candidate is in particular interested in the development and application of NMR spectroscopic measurement techniques for the analysis of the structure, biosynthesis and binding behavior of natural products.


Duration of employment: 4 year/s

Extent of Employment: 30 hours/week

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: §48 VwGr. B1 Grundstufe (praedoc) with relevant work experience determining the assignment to a particular salary grade.


Job Description:

Participation in research, teaching and administration:

- Participation in research projects / research studies

- Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations

- We expect the successful candidate to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12-18 months

- Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses as defined by the collective agreement

- Supervision of students

- Involvement in the organisation of meetings, conferences, symposiums



- Graduate degree (Master, Magister, Diploma) in chemistry or in a related subject in the field of molecular sciences is a prerequisite

- Experience in participation in research and project work is necessary

- Experience in the independent recording of NMR spectra is an advantage

- Activities in giving lectures or preparing publications is an advantage

- Didactic competence is an advantage

- High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing is expected

- Excellent command of written and spoken English is expected

- IT user skills are expected


Desirable qualifications are:

- Interest in organic chemistry with the main focus on NMR spectroscopy, phytochemistry and natural product chemistry

- Teaching experience

- Knowledge of university processes and structures

- Basic experience in research methods and academic writing
