Austrian Consortium for OAPEN

Open Access Publishing in European Networks

The University of Vienna, the publishers Böhlau and Holzhausen and the FWF fund the annual membership of the Austrian Consortium for OAPEN. The consortium makes it possible for all researchers working mainly in Austria to archive their peer reviewed scientific books in the OAPEN-Library without any costs.

OAPEN is a European-wide platform for Open Access publication of books - mainly from the field of humanities and social sciences. It pursues the aims to coordinate and support the transition from conventional book publications to the Open Access publication of books and to introduce and establish criteria for a quality assurance of published books. With the OAPEN-Library one central repository for the Open Access publishing of European scholarly books is to be established. The open and free provision of a large number of high-quality, scientific open access publications should improve the discoverability of books and allow a wide dissemination of publications. Thus, high quality standards in the open-access archiving are guaranteed.

OAPEN Foundation promotes and supports open access for academic books. OAPEN was developed as an EU funded project in its eContentplus programme (2008-2011), and continued as a Foundation after the close of the project. The OAPEN Library (www.oapen.org) was launched in 2010 as a platform for full text hosting, deposit, dissemination and preservation of OA books. The Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB - www.doabooks.org),  winner of the IFLA/Brill Open Access Award 2015, was established as a separate activity in 2012, in order to improve the discovery of OA books, and to establish a quality-controlled list of academic OA book publishers. All books archived in the OAPEN-Library are exported to the Directory of Open Access Books (DOAB).

For archiving, we need the completed form Angaben zur Veröffentlichung der Publikation in der OAPEN-Library(pdf, 0.9MB), and a PDF of the respective publication (preferred PDF format: PDF / A).

Please send the completed form via e-mail to doris.haslinger(at)fwf.ac.at and signed by snail mail to the FWF (Haus der Forschung, Sensengasse 1, 1090 Vienna). The PDF can be sent via e-mail or on data medium to the above mentioned addresses.
