Associate Professorship in Medical Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
Danube Private University (DPU) invites applications for an Associate Professorship in Medical Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, to lead the newly established Medical Data Science and AI Research Group. The position is full-time and offers an annual gross salary of EUR 120,000; overpayment is possible based on qualifications and experience.
About the Position
The successful candidate will establish and lead a dynamic research program at the interface of AI, data science, and the health professions, contributing to the university’s strategic commitment to innovation in medicine, dentistry, psychology, and psychotherapy. The professorship will play a key role in shaping DPU’s growing profile in digital health research, including its current initiative to develop a Center for Artificial Intelligence in Lower Austria.
A central responsibility of the role is to foster and coordinate collaborative research projects between DPU and its clinical partners, including the University Hospitals of Wiener Neustadt, Neunkirchen, and Hochegg. The aim of these collaborations is to integrate cutting-edge data science methodologies with clinical expertise to advance patient care, diagnostics, and health-system innovation.
Research Environment
DPU is currently engaged in more than 30 third-party funded projects (EU, FWF, FFG, GFF NÖ) and maintains over 50 international research partnerships across Latin America, Asia, and Europe. The Associate Professor will be embedded in this vibrant research ecosystem and is expected to actively contribute to project acquisition, international collaboration, and high-impact scientific output.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the Medical Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Research Group at DPU
• Develop an internationally visible research portfolio in medical AI and data science
• Initiate, coordinate, and conduct joint research projects with clinical partners
• Supervise doctoral and master’s students and contribute to teaching in relevant programs
• Acquire third-party funding and contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives
• Support DPU’s strategic development, particularly the establishment of a new AI Center in Lower Austria
Qualifications
• Doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) in computer science, data science, biomedical informatics, or a related field
• Outstanding research record in medical AI, machine learning, clinical data science, or health informatics
• Experience in collaborative clinical research or translational AI projects
• Demonstrated ability to secure competitive research funding
• Teaching experience and commitment to mentoring early-career researchers
• Strong communication and leadership skills
