Project Assistant (Prae-Doc)

30 hours/week | max. 4 years

You will be working as Project Assistant (Prae-Doc) at the Institute of Biomedical Electronics in the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded project Short pulse stimulation in epiretinal implants. We look forward to having you on our research team (30 hours/week) starting from Juli 1st 2026.

Your tasks:

• Participate in research and teaching in the field of Biomedical Engineering:
  • Modeling of electric fields by Finite Element Method (FEM)
  • Simulation of neural activity during electrical stimulation
  • Patch clamp electrophysiology / electrical stimulation of nerve cells
• Publish scientific results and write a dissertation
• Participate in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty
• Supervise students

Your profile:

• A Master’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. Biomedical Engineering
• Experience in computer simulation of neurons and/or Finite Element Method (FEM) and/or electrophysiology
• Knowledge in scientific programing (e.g. Python, Matlab)
• Excellent command of English language; good command of German is favorable
• Teamwork, organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
• Enthusiasm for research and interest in scientific discovery

Entry level salary as a doctoral researcher is covered by level B1 of the Austrian Collective Agreement for university staff, and receives a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year.
