Project Assistant (Prae-Doc)

You will be working as Project Assistant (Prae-Doc) at the Institute of Biomedical Electronics in the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)-funded project Short pulse stimulation in epiretinal implants. We look forward to having you on our research team (30 hours/week) starting from Juli 1st 2026.
Your tasks:
- Participate in research and teaching in the field of Biomedical Engineering:
- Modeling of electric fields by Finite Element Method (FEM)
- Simulation of neural activity during electrical stimulation
- Patch clamp electrophysiology / electrical stimulation of nerve cells
- Publish scientific results and write a dissertation
- Participate in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty
- Supervise students
Your profile:
- A Master’s degree in a relevant field, e.g. Biomedical Engineering
- Experience in computer simulation of neurons and/or Finite Element Method (FEM) and/or electrophysiology
- Knowledge in scientific programing (e.g. Python, Matlab)
- Excellent command of English language; good command of German is favorable
- Teamwork, organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
- Enthusiasm for research and interest in scientific discovery

Entry level salary as a doctoral researcher is covered by level B1 of the Austrian Collective Agreement for university staff, and receives a minimum of currently EUR 2,832.10/month gross, 14 times/year.
