Your Responsibilities
The Electron Microscopy Facility (EMF) at ISTA supports a vibrant international scientific community, with state-of-the-art EM infrastructure. The facility is expanding its application range through the establishment of a unique ultrafast nanoscale spectroscopic platform. This position contributes to the development and implementation of the new platform within the EMF, and provides active support to EMF-users working in the fields of time-resolved electron microscopy and cathodoluminescence. The role involves close interaction with selected research groups at ISTA that make intensive use of the platform. In particular, the position requires regular engagement with researchers to align instrument capabilities with scientific objectives, and to contribute to the development of new experimental directions enabled by ultrafast electron microscopy and cathodoluminescence. Join our team to provide service and support, and to fulfill the following responsibilities:
Operate, monitor and maintain the spectroscopic platform, including troubleshooting technical issues, regular system check including systems alignment and calibration to guarantee high-quality performance
Conduct training, assistance, support, and supervision of researchers
Monitoring of compliance with rules to ensure all safety protocols and standard operating procedures are followed
Active contribution to scientific projects, methodology development, shaping measurement workflows, and experimental protocols optimization
Regular interaction with research groups, including participation in technical and scientific discussions related to ongoing projects
Your Profile
Advanced degree (MSc/PhD) in Physics, Material Science
Strong practical experience in scanning and/or transmission electron microscopy
Experience with one or more of the following advanced modalities such as ultrafast SEM/TEM, time-resolved electron microscopy, cathodoluminescence
Hands-on experience with complex instrumentation, including vacuum systems, ultrafast lasers, cryogenic environments
Experience with computational tools such as Python or MATLAB
Excellent team player that can also work independently
High degree of reliability, organizational and interpersonal skills
Service oriented approach towards researches in a multidisciplinary environment
Problem-solving mindset and a proactive approach
Excellent communication, presentation and writing skills in English
