Ausschreibungstext

A master thesis position is available in the laboratory of Prof. Robert Eferl, Institute of Cancer Research, Medical University of Vienna. The position includes remuneration according to FWF guidelines. The start date is February-March 2022.

Background

Tumor metastases are the leading cause of death in cancer patients. Metastasis is heavily dependent on cytokines and cytokine receptors. We are interested in the function of the Janus kinase TYK2 (which mediates interferon signaling) in cancer metastasis. The master thesis student will use a murine intrasplenic injection model to investigate the role of TYK2 in liver metastasis of colon cancer.

Methods

Methods include intrasplenic injection of TYK2 control or TYK2 CRISPR/Cas9-deleted colon cancer organoids into various host mice with conditional TYK2 deletion in hematopoietic cells. Liver metastases are monitored by non-invasive IVIS (intravital in vivo imaging) and characterized by standard histochemical and immunohistochemical methods.

Applicant

Applicants with a Bachelor's degree in biology, microbiology, genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology or biochemistry are welcome. A strong interest in cancer research is a prerequisite. Applicants should submit a letter of motivation and a CV to robert.eferl(at)meduniwien.ac.at by December 12th, 2022.
