Ausschreibungstext
We are looking for a highly motivated Master student to strengthen our team in a molecular parasite host interaction project. The position is available in the research group of Philipp Hohensinner at the Medical University of Vienna in the Anna Spiegel Forschungsgebäude, where we have samples of Echinococcus multilocularis (Fox tapeworm) infected mice. Infection with E. multilocularis causes alveolar echinococcosis (AE), one of the most life-threatening zoonotic diseases. Upon oral ingestion of eggs, larvae migrate to the liver and proliferate invasively as a so called metacestode, which can metastasize to distant foci.
Your task will be the processing and analysis of murine and human tissue samples, to gain a better understanding of parasite induced host interaction on a molecular level. We offer the opportunity to acquire a wide range of technical skills, including immunofluorescence, microscopy, qPCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, CyTOF, RNAseq, and automated image analysis. Handling with mice is not required but optional.
Your profile:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject
• Completion of all practical courses
• Basic knowledge in immunology and molecular biology techniques
• Enthusiasm, curiosity and commitment to pursue a research project for 1 year
Please send your cover letter and CV to Manuel Salzmann (manuel.salzmann(at)meduniwien.ac.at) and Frieda Marka (frieda.marka(at)meduniwien.ac.at). Monthly stipend of 500.91 € (according to FWF).
