Dr. Kazuhiko Matsuoka, currently became a junior group leader, at the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) of the Medical University of Vienna, is seeking a highly motivated PhD student(s) for two

research projects related to skeletal disorders:

- Arthritis

- Bone cancer

The project aims to understand the biology of skeletal disorders including osteoarthritis and osteosarcoma using genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs) and find potential translations into innovative therapeutic applications. Functional studies applying genetic, molecular and biochemical methods to cell cultures and GEMMs will be conducted. The training is provided by CCR with expertise spanning molecular and cellular cancer research, immunology, human genetics, bioinformatics and mathematics, biomarkers, and drug development. We also offer a competitive research environment at the CCR of the MUW, with a focus on the generation and analysis of pre-clinical mouse models of disease. Joint research and training, participation in workshops and meetings and interaction with clinical partners at the MUW will further foster collaboration and outreach efforts, to raise appreciation of societal challenges and open future job opportunities.

POSITIONS: The selected PhD candidate will be employed for 3 years with a contract that includes salary and social benefits.

WHO CAN APPLY: Applicants must hold or be close to obtaining a Master or equivalent degree in any discipline of life science with evidence of high academic achievements. Experience with mouse models/handling and basics of programming skills (e.g. R and/or Python) are assets. English is the working language.
