As announced in December 2014, the Austrian Science Fund FWF will mandate the use of an Open Researcher and Contributor ID (ORCID) as part of its grant application process.

By an agreement of the Austrian Academic Library Consortium KEMÖ and the Austrian Science Fund FWF with the academic publisher Springer, researchers from Austria have now the option of publishing their research open access in more than 1,600 journals without article processing charges. That is the second deal of this kind worldwide and accelerates the transformation to Open Access in academic publishing.
