At the beginning of April, FWF President Klement Tockner and the Director of the Polish National Science Centre (NCN, Narodow Centrum Nauki), Prof. Zbigniew Błocki, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Prague. The FWF and the NCN agree to fund outstanding and integrated Polish-Austrian research projects in the future. The cooperation covers all areas of scientific research, including the humanities, and thus represents a flexible instrument for intensifying the scientific cooperation between the two countries. The details of the call are currently being developed. The opening of the call can be expected in the last quarter of 2018. Together with the existing agreements with partner funding organisations in Germany, Switzerland, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the new cooperation is yet another important step towards closer scientific collaboration in Central Europe.
