On Thursday, 12 September 2019, Liechtenstein's Minister of Education Dominique Hasler and Klement Tockner, President of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF), met in Vienna to sign an agreement on continued cooperation in the field of research.
A Declaration of Cooperation between the Government of Liechtenstein and the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) was first signed on 18 January 1990 with the aim to promote research projects in Liechtenstein, encourage exchanges between Austrian and Liechtenstein researchers and honour the countries’ good neighbourly relations in the context of higher education.
Liechtenstein's Minister of Education, Dominique Hasler, used her visit to Vienna on the occasion of the Liechtenstein reception to sign this agreement. “By renewing the agreement, we are not only honouring the Declaration, which was signed around 30 years ago, we also heighten its visibility,” emphasises the Minister. “In conjunction with the equivalent agreement that we have with the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF), Liechtenstein researchers are thus granted equal access to research funds from these institutions.” Speaking at the signing ceremony, FWF President Klement Tockner said: “We want to make sure our common research area in the heart of Europe gets even closer to the world’s best. I am therefore delighted to be able to continue and expand this partnership to the benefit of researchers in both countries".
With the renewal of the agreement, there will be even greater incentives for researchers from Liechtenstein research institutions and universities to apply to the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) for funding. The agreement provides researchers working at Liechtenstein research institutions with access to all FWF funding programs.
