In addition to close international cooperation in the SARS-CoV-2 urgent funding programmes, the Austrian Science Fund FWF has set up a further cooperation project with Switzerland: the FWF is participating in the coronavirus research programme run by the Swiss National Science Foundation. Researchers from Austria can form teams with colleagues from Switzerland and jointly initiate research projects.

At the behest of the Swiss Federal Council, the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) is organizing a national research programme on SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19. In this framework, proposals for research projects can be submitted in four thematic areas. The Austrian Science Fund FWF, a long-standing partner of the SNSF, will provide funding for Austrian sub-projects under the heading of Swiss-Austrian research projects ("Joint Projects") whose main financial focus is in Switzerland. For researchers from Austria, this opens up new cooperation opportunities in the field of corona research. Applications can be submitted up until 25 May 2020.

Promoting international cooperation

Participation in this SNSF National Research Programme is the third FWF initiative supporting scientific research on SARS-CoV-2. In addition to the FWF’s urgent funding programmes, in which seven countries are participating, the FWF is also cooperating both with Switzerland and the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the latter's call for proposals for pandemics research.

All details on the FWF’s participation in the SNSF National Research Programme are available online in an info sheet under “Switzerland”.
