What forms of support does the Austrian Science Fund FWF’s “Crisis Support for Researchers from Ukraine” provide?
We would like to inform you that the number of applications received since the crisis support was announced now exceeds the financial resources available. For this reason, we ask for your understanding that the FWF cannot consider any further applications for crisis support. Refugee researchers can find alternative support options on the website of Austria’s Agency for Education and Internationalisation (OeAD) at https://oead.at/en/the-oead/information-about-ukraine or directly from universities and other research institutions in Austria.
What forms of support does the FWF provide for ongoing projects that are interrupted because of the war in Ukraine or can only be continued with limitations?
If delays occur in the progress of projects funded under the programmes Stand-Alone Projects, International Programmes, Clinical Research, Hertha Firnberg, Elise Richter, Meitner, ESPRIT, PEEK or START, the projects can be extended on a cost-neutral basis as always. The grant agreements already provide for cost-neutral extensions of projects for up to twelve months. After this option has been exhausted, and subsequent to any extension previously granted as Covid-19 relief, an application for a cost-neutral extension for six more months may be submitted to the FWF three months before the end date of the project. The FWF must be notified of this in a timely manner (before the period stated in the agreement expires).
If unexpected difficulties arise in the course of project implementation, please notify your contact person at the FWF immediately.
Can funding be requested for non-reimbursed costs arising from project-specific travel cancelled due to the war?
Yes, you can request funding for non-reimbursed costs for cancelled project-specific travel. The principal investigator is responsible for providing the appropriate documentation including all receipts.
