ASMET Research Award
2020 call for proposals
On behalf of ASMET – The Austrian Society for Metallurgy and Materials, the FWF has issued a call for proposals in 2020 for research projects in the fields of metallurgy and materials development with a focus on the use of AI (artificial intelligence) methods.
Target group
Researchers who conduct basic engineering research on metals.
The aim of the call for proposals is to promote research in the above-mentioned field at a high international level and to support junior researchers.
Requirements, duration and amount of funding
In order to be eligible for funding, applications for this call must meet the requirements of the FWF Stand-Alone Programme. Applicants must also meet the eligibility requirements of this programme.
Applicants must also fill out an additional form (programme-specific data) explaining the relevance of the proposal with regard to the topic of the call.
Special aspects of the call
The general project costs of stand-alone projects funded by ASMET will be increased from 5% to 10%.
Projects financed by ASMET can also be submitted and funded in addition to three ongoing/submitted projects in the Stand-Alone Projects, International Programmes (bilateral projects), Clinical Research (KLIF) and the Programme for Arts-based Research (PEEK) programmes.
Submission
Applications are to be submitted exclusively via elane, the FWF’s electronic application portal (https://elane.fwf.ac.at/).
- Opening of the call for proposals: 4 March 2020
- Deadline: 30 June 2020 (date of postmark on the cover sheet); applications can be submitted via elane until 14:00 local Vienna time/Austria.
- Applications are to be submitted in accordance with the application guidelines for stand-alone projects (incl. an additional programme-specific data form).
Allocation
Based on the recommendation of the FWF Board, decisions on the awarding of funding are made by the managing board of ASMET within four weeks of the FWF Board’s meeting on 23–25 November 2020.
The sum of €300,000 is available for the call.
Proposals which receive outstanding reviews but cannot be funded by the foundation will be funded directly by the FWF; in such cases, however, the special arrangement regarding general project costs will not apply.
