Short Description

BiodivERsA and Water JPI is pleased to announce the Launch of the BiodivERsA / Water JPI Call on “Conservation and restoration of degraded ecosystems and their biodiversity, including a focus on aquatic systems”

This call will cover the following three non-exclusive themes:

  • Studying the biological and biophysical processes at stake for conservation/restoration, and their interactions
  • Assessing trade-offs and synergies between targets, benefits and policies for conservation and restoration
  • Knowledge for improving the effectiveness and upscaling of conservation and restoration actions

This joint call includes a focus on freshwater aquatic systems but all environments (ie. terrestrial, freshwater and marine) are eligible.

Der Aufruf richtet sich an ForscherInnen, die auf dem Gebiet der Biodiversitätsforschung  arbeiten. Ziel ist dabei die Förderung neuer grenzüberschreitender Kooperationen.

Research teams will be invited to form transnational research consortia with eligible partners from minimum 3 countries participating in the call (including minimum two from EU Member States or EU Associated Countries).

31 funding organisations from 27 countries are planning to join this call and have reserved – together with the European Commission – a total amount of over 20 Million Euro:

Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal (including Azores), Romania, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, and Tunisia

A two-step process will apply, with a mandatory pre-registration of projects at the first step and submission of full proposals at the second step. Pre-registrations and full proposals (to be written in English) must be submitted electronically with the Electronic Proposal Submission System (EPSS). The link to the EPSS will be available on the BiodivERsA websites.

In addition to the application at the call secretariat administrative and financial data as well as project abstracts (in accordance with the FWF guidelines for stand-alone projects) must be submitted online to the FWF at https://elane.fwf.ac.at/.

This is required already at the pre-registration stage via the programme category “IK – International Projects (preproposal, deadline 07. December 2020)”.

For the full proposal stage applicants must choose the programme category “I – International Projects”, Deadline 15. March (<100 Preproposals) or 03. May (> 100 Preproposals) 2021 16:00 CET.

For submissions to be valid, the cover sheet generated at the end of the online submission process must be printed out and signed. It can then either be sent to the FWF by conventional mail (FWF, Sensengasse 1, 1090 Vienna) or scanned in, given a digital signature and sent to the FWF (office(at)fwf.ac.at) an e-mail attachment.

Deadline for submitting pre-proposals: 07 December 2020; 16:00 CET
Deadline for submitting full proposals: 15. March (<100 Preproposals) or 03. May (> 100 Preproposals) 2021 16:00 CET
