Postdoctoral Researcher (m/f) - Translational Biology of Metastatic Childhood Cancers
The Children's Cancer Research Institute in Vienna (Austria) is looking for a molecular biologist with a strong interest in translational science who would like to study the molecular determinants of high-risk neuroblastoma, a highly aggressive childhood cancer. The successful candidate will join a young, interdisciplinary team well embedded in the national and international pediatric cancer research community.
The lab of Peter Ambros (Co-director) and Sabine Taschner-Mandl (Junior-PI) combines multi-omics approaches, computational biology, and clinical collaborations in order to improve diagnostics and therapy of childhood cancers. For metastatic neuroblastoma, which is one of the most deadly cancers in infants and children, we have recently established comprehensive transcriptomics and genomics profiles, and identified novel candidates with potential diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic relevance. Funded by the Austrian Research Agency (FFG), we will apply genome-wide and imaging-based large-scale technologies and develop and apply new workflows for multi-omics data exploration in order to identify and validate novel biology of the tumor and the metastatic niche and, in close collaboration with CCRI’s zebrafish platform, test promising therapeutic approaches. This approach may serve as a general proof-of-concept for precision medicine in childhood cancers.
We are looking for a highly creative and motivated individual who will or has recently graduated with a Ph.D. in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, immunology and/or M.D. degree, or equivalent, and is qualified to start a postdoctoral position in fall 2018.
Prior experience with (single cell) next generation sequencing approaches, digital/immuno-fluorescence imaging, cell culture and biochemical assays is required. Experience with CRISPR/Cas9 technology and drug-screening platforms is an advantage.
The candidate must have documented peer-reviewed research productivity. We expect the applicant to be able to independently design and perform experiments. Excellent organizational skills, a pro-active approach to solving problems and good personal interaction and communication skills, including fluency in English (oral and written) are required.
CCRI (Children´s Cancer Research Institute) is a renowned multidisciplinary research institution with tight links to the spin-off company LabDia Labordiagnostik GmbH and to the St. Anna Children's Hospital, a leading pediatric cancer center in Europe. The position will be open starting November 2018 (or as negotiated) for the duration of 3 years. The salary will be in line with standards of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF)
