PhD position in optical imaging
- electrical engineering, optics
- Medical University of Vienna
- Closing Date
One PhD student position is open for application now. The position will be officially available on October 1st, 2020 and the payment can last for four years. This position is enabled by the EU H2020-FETOPEN project 899612. The student is expected to design, assemble, and test novel dual modality optical coherence and photoacoustic microscopy and tomography systems. These systems will be used to visualize magnetic nanoparticles which will be administered to zebrafish. By using the dual modality optical imaging systems and the nanoparticles, we aim to monitor specific tissue regeneration processes and to study the mechanisms of certain diseases.
This PhD program will be the N094 program offered by the Medical University of Vienna. But due to the international collaboration of this project, the student may need to work in collaborators' facilities to accomplish certain tasks. Most likely, the student needs to work in a collaborator's lab for a certain duration at the University of Innsbruck for adult zebrafish imaging.
The student is expected to take the courses in the N094 program of MUW under the theme "Medical Physics". In the end of the first year, the student needs to submit a thesis proposal and pass an evaluation to continue the next three years of study. To graduate, the student needs first author publications with a cumulative impact factor of 10. The senior supervisor will be Prof. Wolfgang Drexler and the junior supervisor will be Mengyang Liu.
