Group leader position in Molecular Ecology of Aquatic Ecosystems (f/m/d)

Gross monthly salary (payable 14 times per year): EUR 5800,-
WasserCluster Lunz (WCL) offers a stimulating international scientific working environment. Several laboratories, including a molecular biology, a microbiology, and a radionuclide lab amongst others, are equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure. The molecular laboratory is equipped for a wide range of molecular techniques, from total nucleic acid extraction and quantification to standard PCR and single/duplex qPCR with the possibility of multiplex applications. The laboratory has a UV glove box with special equipment and is geared to the needs of low DNA/RNA techniques, but also to the extraction of HMW DNA. In addition, on-site sequencing is possible with a MinIOn device. We also offer GC-IRMS, flow cytometry, TOC analyser, Confocal Laser Scanning Microscope, Laser Diffraction Particle Size Distribution Analyzer, etc. Various out-door and in-door experimental facilities and long-term monitoring stations in the groundwater, lake and stream ecosystems allow for innovative ecosystem research across scales.
Responsibilities:
• Lead an independent research working group, including financial responsibilities, and be responsible for the molecular laboratory
• Develop and extend research topics complementary to the existing research at WCL
• Acquire third-party research funds for the working group
• Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present results at scientific conferences
• Collaborate with other research groups of WCL and contribute to interdisciplinary research projects
• Engage in public relation activities of WCL
• Participation in the strategic planning and implementation of WCL
Required skills and qualifications:
• Doctoral degree in molecular biology and aquatic ecology or a related field
• Expertise in molecular ecology/genetics and aquatic ecosystems
• Accomplished acquisition of competitive national or international research funding
• Distinguished record of research with publications in peer-reviewed international journals
• Experience in leading a research team
• Skills in communication and teamwork in an international team
• International scientific network
• Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
• Beneficial: proficient in German
