Our Center for Digital Safety & Security located in Vienna invites applications for an internship. Our Competence Unit for Cooperative Digital Technologies is leading in applied research on the development of data-based IT solutions for various application scenarios, including the design of new and innovative solutions supporting communities in increasing their resilience and achieving their sustainable development goals (SDG). As a reliable partner of industry and public authorities, we work on digital tools for a sustainable and resilient society based on current research results and in collaboration with end users and our customers. The focus of our applications is on climate change impact assessment and the protection of society during crises and disasters.

Specifically, our Sustainable & Resilient Society team focuses on IT concepts and systems for enabling data exchange in different domains. Specific focus is put on IT solutions for crisis & disaster management, and sustainability management in communities & companies:

INTERNSHIP "DECISION SUPPORT SOFTWARE FOR CLIMATE ADAPTION AND CYBER SECURITY"

CENTER FOR DIGITAL SAFETY & SECURITY

Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team,

you contribute to product co-design and develop (parts of) the innovative decision support and knowledge management software prototypes of interest to the regional stakeholders working with us in these projects, or

you support developing technical architecture, software tools for data space projects focused on different topics such as sustainable battery manufacturing, climate adaptation and mitigation, cyber security and public safety, or

you support concept development as well assistance in coding within the development and validation of quantifiable Key Performance Indicator based matching of requirements and needs for pandemic management.

You will gain practical experience with one of the leading research companies in Austria.

You support us in our international project and get exciting insights into our technological environment.

You will have not only the opportunity to discuss your work experiences and results with experienced scientific peers, but also to connect with other bachelor’s, master’s or PhD students.

Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:

You already have your Bachelor’s degree and are enrolled in your Master’s studies in the field of informatics / computer science / data science / geoinformatics / mathematics or similar at an Austrian university

Depending on the internship:

Basic software engineering knowledge and interest in GIS

Programming skills like Java, Python, Docker and knowledge of cloud resources (e.g., GCP, AWS)

Analytical thinking and enthusiasm for highly innovative research

Interest in the conception of scientific studies and application-oriented questions of the industry

Interest to work in a multidisciplinary team and collaborate on different topics

Very Good verbal and written English skills (team language is English), German and other language skills would be a plus

What to expect:

Duration of the internship: minimum 2 months

Start date: spring/summer 2024 – However there is some flexibility concerning the start-date

A remuneration of EUR 1.366,-- gross per month for 38.5 hours per week. In addition to our company benefits, we offer flexible working conditions and work experience in a highly innovative environment.
