Hearing Research

The Department of Otorhinolaryngology of the Medical University of Vienna offers a position of a PhD student (m/f/d, UN94 or UN790) - according to the collective agreement – starting from approximately march for 30h/week.

Remuneration is based on the provisions of the collective agreement for universities.

Responsibilities: Research position in the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Inner Ear Research under the leadership of (Principial Investigator, PI) Assoc. Prof. Priv.-Doz. Dr. Christoph Arnoldner, MBA, Co-PI Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. univ. Clemens Honeder, PhD and Junior Research Group Leader Priv.-Doz. Dr. med. univ. Lukas D. Landegger, PhD.

• Planning, organization and autonomous execution of scientific projects in basic/translational research. Research of current scientific findings in hearing research.

• Collaboration and re-evaluation of ongoing experiments.

• Critical scientific analysis of experimental results.

• To establish common basic scientific laboratory methods (qPCR, immunofluorescence, western blot, etc.).

• Preparation as well as quantitative and qualitative evaluation of histological tissue

• Preparation of scientific manuscripts to be published after appropriate peer-review process

Employment Requirements: Completed studies in natural sciences (e.g. biology, chemistry), veterinary medicine or medicine and qualification in research and teaching. The employment requirements under foreign law for non-EU citizens must be guaranteed.

Relevant qualifications: Experience in the field of hearing research and interest in studying functional preservation and regeneration of hearing in animal models following various trauma models. Also expected is an interest in using in vitro studies to test possible models of hearing preservation. Very good computer skills (MS Office, statistical programs such as SPSS/Graphpad Prism) and, if applicable, programming skills in R/Python are desired. Experience with programs such as Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop for editing manuscript illustrations or video editing is an advantage. Good English and ideally also German language skills, ability to work independently, high degree of responsibility, ability to work in a team, willingness to learn, reliability, flexibility, resilience and thoroughness are required.
