We are seeking for a highly motivated post-doctoral researcher interested in working in a stimulating and team-oriented research environment. The candidate will perform ambitious projects aiming to discover molecular signaling pathways that regulate antimicrobial activity by investigating chromatin remodeling and transcriptional activities of JAK-STAT signaling components and determining their role in regulating crosstalk of immune and non-immune cells under steady-state conditions and in response to viral and bacterial pathogens. The research is associated with and builds on work generated within an FWF-funded special research network program (SFB). Our team operates in a multidisciplinary working environment encompassing molecular biologists and bioinformaticians with state-of-the-art research facilities and is located at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, Department of Biological Sciences and Pathobiology (www.vetmeduni.ac.at).

 

Responsibilities and tasks

• Performing independent research projects and participation in ongoing projects of the research group

• Participation in the preparation of research publications

• Participation in teaching, in particular (co-) supervision of internship, Bachelor, Master, and PhD students

• Participation in administrative tasks in the context of teaching and research

 

The candidate will be offered a 4-years contract with a minimum salary of € 4.752,30 gross per month (based on full-time employment; the minimum salaries at universities are governed by a collective bargaining agreement).

 

Necessary education, qualifications and knowledge on taking up employment

• Completed Doctorate or PhD in Life Sciences/Biomedical Sciences, Human or Veterinary Medicine

• Several years of experience in basic biomedical research

• Proven solid practical experience with flow cytometry (e.g., scientific publications)

• Certified experience with handling gene-modified mice (e.g., FELASA course) or proven practical experience with in vivo mouse models (e.g., reference)

• Publications in peer-reviewed Journals

• Good knowledge of English (written and spoken; level B2)

 

Desirable qualifications and skills

• Advanced knowledge and experience in the fields of immunology and infection biology

• Practical experience with in vivo infection models under BSL2 conditions

• Ability to work in a team, commitment and high motivation

• Very good and independent scientific writing skills (English)

• Reliability, ability to work in a team, commitment and high motivation

• Experience in coordinated work within research networks

• Average knowledge of German (Level B1)
