The Clinical Department for Small Animals and Horses seeks to appoint a

Professor for “Dentistry and Oral Surgery”

in accordance with § 99 (1) of the 2002 Universities Act.

Field of activity

The advertised professorship is affiliated to the Clinical Centre for Small Animal Health and Research is intended to further develop dentistry and oral surgery in research, teaching, and veterinary services in collaboration with the existing team.

The central task of the guest professorship is to represent the field of dentistry and oral surgery in research, teaching, further education, as well as in the clinical dental station for small animals. The professorship has access to state-of-the-art infrastructure in the newly established small animal clinic with excellent research and teaching facilities. This includes conducting clinical-surgical activities in the university clinic, ensuring an adequate patient spectrum, expanding customer relationships, as well as networking and interactions with referring practicing veterinarians.

The successful candidate is expected to coordinate, further develop, and ensure the quality of the services including night, weekend, and on-call duties.

In teaching, the successful candidate will participate in the theoretical and practical-clinical training of students in the Diploma Programme in Veterinary Medicine on patients and in the Vetmeduni skills lab (VetSim). A focus will be on supervising bachelor's, master's, diploma, and doctoral (PhD) theses as well as the clinical training of pre- and post-docs. Furthermore, establishing and developing innovative teaching formats and postgraduate scientific education (e.g., implementing an extension programme), as well as participation in the Residency Program of the European Veterinary Dental College, are part of the teaching responsibilities.

In research, the successful candidate is expected to establish an independent research program in collaboration with the research institutions of the Vetmeduni. Successful third-party funding acquisitions are expected for the expansion of clinical, interdisciplinary research.

The tasks of the professorship also include knowledge exchange and transfer, participation in university committees, involvement in national and international professional committees, as well as collaboration with stakeholder groups.

 

Required education, qualifications and experience

• Completed studies in veterinary medicine

• Completed subject-related Doctorate / PhD or comparable scientific qualification

• Diplomate of the European Veterinary Dental College (EVDC) or Diplomate of the American Veterinary Dental College (AVDC)

• Proof of clinical experience in the field of veterinary relevance

• Relevant publication track record in line with the career level

• Evidence of responsible participation in research projects

• Demonstrable experience in the application of state-of-the-art methods in the field

• Didactic qualification or experience in teaching, as well as in supervising and (clinical-practical) training of undergraduate and graduate students

• Networking in national and international clinical-scientific professional associations

• Minimum of 2 years of postgraduate experience

• Good English level (B2)

Minimum salary

The minimum salary according to the Collective Bargaining Agreement for University Staff is EUR 6,362.50 gross per month (14 times per year) based on a fulltime contract. A higher salary may be agreed to during the appointment negotiations.

Presentations and interviews with the candidates are scheduled for July 2024.
