Bioinformatician (f/m/d) Microbes and Plants

Our Center for Health & Bioresources is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Tulln (in immediate vicinity to Vienna). In the Center for Health & Bioresources we aim to solve challenges associated with demographic change, resource scarcity and environmental pollution and to develop innovative solutions, that enable early disease detection and support healthy and active aging.
In our Competence Unit Bioresources we aim to make advancements in sustainable crop production and pest control and develop microbe-based solutions for the food systems and bioeconomy. Hereby, numerous and diverse projects address the functioning of soils, plants, microbiomes and their interactions.
Bioinformatician (f/m/d) Microbes and Plants
Your responsibilities:
- As part of our bioinformatics team, you will deploy available analysis pipelines and contribute to their development to enable reliable insights using heterogeneous data sources.
- You will work with sequencing data and corresponding metadata as well as with data from the sensor-based plant phenotyping platform from different research projects.
- You will perform analysis and interpretation of diverse sequencing datasets, including microbial amplicon, bacterial and fungal whole genome, metagenomic and metatranscriptomic, as well as plant transcriptomic datasets with an emphasis on statistical methods.
- You will also work towards the integration of these multi-modal datasets using well-established multi-omics tools with the possibility to further optimise the tools.
- You will support in the analysis of the tabular datasets from phenotyping campaigns, with the possibility to automatise and generalise existing workflows.
- You will use state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools and established pipelines, actively contributing to the development and management of new scripts and reproducible workflows. To this end, experience with workflow management systems such as Snakemake or Nextflow is essential, enabling you to create robust, shareable, and publication-ready pipelines.
- You will report and discuss the results within the project team and publish them in scientific journals.
Your qualifications as an Ingenious Partner:
- Higher degree (preferably PhD) in Biology, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or similar
- Knowledge in bioinformatic analysis tools, Linux, Bash scripting and at least one of the following languages: Python, R
- Familiarity with plant transcriptomics, statistics, and microbial community analyses
- Experience with machine learning approaches, including the ability to apply relevant statistical models and predictive analytics to biological datasets, is highly advantageous.
- Interest in programming of analytical workflows is a plus
- Analytical thinking and scientific documentation
- Very good communication skills in English
What to expect:
The minimum gross annual salary according to the collective agreement is EUR 59.934,--. The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience. In addition, we offer company benefits, flexible working conditions, individual training and career opportunities.
