PhD position in molecular biotechnology
The University of Applied Science, FH Campus Wien in cooperation with the Johannes Keppler University in Linz and the Technical University Vienna is offering a PhD position for the duration of four years. The position is part of the FWF funded doctoral collage “SOLVER – Skills for medical device research”. In the offered project, innovative cell-culture-based bioassays will be developed for the use in applied as well as basic research. The expertise for the development of bioassays (FH Campus Wien, FH-Prof. Thomas Czerny) and vascular disease (Johannes Keppler University, Prof. Jakob Völkl) is combined with the expertise on material science, surface modification and bio-fluidics from the Technical University. The direct interactions of the fields of expertise will lead to the development of bioassays for:
• Host-cell material interactions for novel implant materials.
• Influence of stent design on host-cell reactions causing re-stenosis.
• Diagnostic assay to estimate the risk of vascular intima calcification.
Your tasks:
• Conduct independent laboratory research on the PhD project in Vienna and Linz.
• Participation in scientific and outreach activities of the SOLVER doctoral program.
• Presentation of research data on international conferences.
• Publish the outcome of your research in relevant peer-reviewed journals.
• Write a dissertation.
• Participate in administrative and organisatory tasks connected to the doctoral program.
Your profile:
• Master´s degree in molecular biotechnology, molecular biology or a related discipline.
• Interest in basic and application-oriented research.
• Practical experience with mammalian cell culture (experience with primary cells preferred) and standard methods in molecular biology (e.g., molecular cloning, Western blot, quantitative PCR).
• Commitment to precise work and documentation.
• Self-organization.
• Very good written and spoken English.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Readiness to travel between Linz and Vienna.
