Postdoc Position Electrochemical Biosensing
Danube Private University (DPU) is Lower Austria’s first private university with an accreditation for medicine and dentistry. It not only educates future healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality medical care, but also advances research to improve diagnosis and treatment in medicine.
More than 100 international researchers are working on two different sites of the DPU in Lower Austria: At the TFZ in Wiener Neustadt and the DPU’s main building in Krems, DPU’s experts are conducting top level research, mainly in the fields of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and imaging and the development of highly sensitive biosensors. An interdisciplinary composition of the research teams as well as the close collaboration with the University Medical Center in Wiener Neustadt and international cooperations and collaborations are the key to the success of this growing institution.
🔬 About the Position
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Postdoctoral Researcher to join our interdisciplinary team working on the development of next-generation electrochemical biosensors for the detection of tuberculosis (TB). This position is part of a larger initiative focused on developing low-cost, rapid, and sensitive diagnostic platforms for infectious diseases, particularly aimed at improving point-of-care (PoC) diagnostics in low-resource settings.
The successful candidate will lead efforts in the design, fabrication and optimization of electrochemical sensor systems, as well as their integration with biomolecular recognition elements for specific detection of TB biomarkers.
Contract Duration: 1 year.
This position is funded by IBW/EFRE & JTF, not by the FWF!
🧪 Key Responsibilities
- Design and fabrication of electrochemical biosensors for TB biomarkers
- Surface modification and functionalization of electrodes using nanomaterials and biorecognition elements
- Development of signal amplification strategies for enhanced sensitivity.
- Electrochemical testing and validation using clinical samples.
- Collaboration with biologists, chemists, and engineers within the team.
- Preparation of manuscripts, reports, and presentations.
- Contribution to funding proposals and student supervision (optional).
🎓 Requirements
Essential:
- PhD in Chemistry and Materials Science
- Strong experience in electrochemical biosensors or electroanalytical techniques
- Hands-on experience with nanomaterials, electrode modification, or biofunctionalization
- Good publication record in relevant journals
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
- Experience with point-of-care diagnostic platforms
- Familiarity with TB biomarkers or infectious disease diagnostics
- Experience in working with clinical samples
💡 We Offer
- A vibrant, interdisciplinary, and collaborative research environment
