Technical Assistant – (Protein Purification/Phage Display/NGS)

We are looking for a highly motivated full time Technician/Technical Assistant to join the Kralovics Lab at the Department of Laboratory Medicine (KILM). Our mission is to translate our experimental research results to human medicine, including the identification of therapeutic vulnerabilities and development of innovative immunotherapies for myeloproliferative neoplasms using state-of-the-art techniques involving protein engineering, phage display and next generation sequencing technologies. The successful candidate will be actively involved in performing and documenting experiments for scientific publications, as well as general laboratory organization, and help in establishing new methods and training of students. A positive attitude, proficient communication skills, along with the ability to learn quickly are required attributes.
Your future tasks
Your responsibilities include the following activities, which primarily involve professional, organizational or administrative support tasks in accordance with general guidelines and instructions. These tasks are conducted in coordination with the scientific staff, as well as other labs of the department.
-Scientific tasks (70% workload):
Conducting independently PCR, molecular cloning, bacterial and mammalian cell culture, phage production and panning, NGS sample preparation and protein purification. Protocols and initial trainings will be available. You are responsible to maintain accurate records, reports, documentation, and data management related to the given experiments.
-Routine duties (30% workload):
As part of the technician team, you also share the responsibilities of maintaining a well-organized and clean lab, ensuring laboratory safety and responding to emergencies. The duties are allocated according to a joint schedule that all the technicians and graduate students will contribute in part.
Managing inventory for chemicals, reagents, supplies, consumables, equipment and so on. And ordering and maintaining the lab/office material, chemicals, and associated instrument supplies.
Coordinating the proper disposal of hazardous and chemical waste in compliance with environmental regulations.

• Fair Salary: The basic salary is paid according to the collective agreement for university employees and increases with professional experience. The current FWF suggested salaries are the guideline.
Requirements and desired qualifications
• You are ideally holder of a master’s degree in a biology-related field (BMA/FH/BSc is minimum), and previous lab training or experience as a technical assistant is a plus but we encourage the application of fresh MSc graduates.
• Experience in standard molecular cell biology techniques (e.g. DNA/RNA isolation, PCR, molecular cloning)
• Experience in E. coli and mammalian cell culture, recombinant protein purification, phage display and NGS techniques are highly desired.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. German is welcome but not mandatory.
