Our group covers different topics in theoretical chemistry, from the use of advanced electronic structure methods to the development of dynamical approaches to study photochemical reactions, also including machine learning.

The group is part of the Cluster of Excellence “MECS- Materials for Energy Conversion and Storage” and the Sonderforschungsbereich TRR234 “CataLight- Light-driven Molecular Catalysts in Hierarchically Structured Materials”, benefiting from many experimental and theoretical collaborations.

Your personal sphere of play:

The position is at the Institute of Theoretical Chemistry at the Faculty of Chemistry.

You will carry out excited-state electronic structure calculations and dynamical simulations of mainly organic antennas in structured environments.

You will work in close collaboration with the recently FWF-funded cluster of excellence MECS.

The outcome shall contribute to the understanding of mechanisms of photocatalytic processes in solution and other complex environments.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:

• You are involved in research related to excited-state electronic structure calculations and simulations of photodynamics of complex organic systems in condensed phase.

• You will carry out independent computational work, including data analysis and preparation of results for publication.

• You are expected to sign a doctoral thesis agreement within 12 months and to finish your thesis within the period of the working contract (maximum four years).

• You engage in teaching (independently and/or in a team) within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.

• You may occasionally be involved in the organization of meetings, conferences and symposiums.

• You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.

This is part of your personality:

• Completed Master's degree or Diploma in Chemistry, Physics, Computational Science or a related field

• Good knowledge of theoretical chemistry, especially on one or more of the following topics: excited-state quantum chemistry, nonadiabatic dynamics or multiscale methods

• Hands-on experience with scientific computing and/or programming skills

• Good command of written and spoken German and English

Terms of employment:

The employment duration is 3 years. Initially limited to 1.5 years, the employment relationship is automatically extended to 3 years if the employer does not terminate it within the first 12 months by submitting a declaration of non-extension. With appropriate work progress, an extension to a total maximum of 4 years is possible.
