Abstract

The discovery of superconductivity in nickelates turned solid-state physics upside down. Given the enormous research activities one even speaks of a new nickel age of superconductivity. The project SuperNickel will investigate these novel superconducting nickelates with cutting edge methods at the scientific frontier. With the apparent similarity to cuprate superconductors, we have high hopes to better understand how these superconductors differ from cuprate superconductors. Using various nickelates and cuprates as a testbed, we aim to establish a method with predictive power for the superconducting critical temperature and a more thorough understanding of high temperature superconductivity. Last but not least we plan to identify promising new superconductors, bulk materials or properly engineered heterostructures.
