PhD position: Molecular mechanisms of skin pigmentation
The position of a pre-doctoral researcher is available in the project “Autonomous pigmentation of epithelial cells” at the Department of Dermatology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria. The project is funded by the Austrian Science Fund, FWF (Project PAT8918924).
Pigments such as melanin protect the skin against ultraviolet radiation and contribute to the color of the skin and its appendages in vertebrates. The molecular and cellular processes of pigment production are only incompletely understood at present. The aim of the project is to determine previously uncharacterized mechanisms of skin pigmentation. State-of-the-art methods in recombinant protein technology, cell culture, enzymatics, gene expression analysis and comparative genomics will be used in this study. The project involves the cooperation with excellent international research partners.
We invite applications from highly motivated students with a thorough understanding of molecular biology.
Requirements:
MSc in molecular biology, biochemistry or related field
Enthusiasm for science
Offer:
Participation in a PhD program of the Medical University of Vienna
