Position for a Master Thesis at the Medical University of Vienna

Title: Understanding nuclear NAD/H dynamics

About Us:

We are a young and dynamic research team, exploring how metabolic processes are compartmentalized. Our research focuses on understanding the role of metabolic organization in health and disease across all biological scales, ranging from the whole organism to tissues to single cells and organelles.

Project Description:

We are looking for a motivated master student to join our team and contribute to exciting research in cellular biology and biochemistry. Recent technological advances have revealed that organelles have unique metabolic profiles. This project will focus on the role of nuclear redox homeostasis and investigate:

  • How cells maintain nuclear NAD/NADH levels
  • The nuclear reactions involved in NAD/NADH balance
  • What happens when this balance is disrupted

This project involves working with hepatic cell lines, performing -omics analysis, using advanced mass spectrometry (including stable isotope tracing), confocal imaging, flow cytometry, and molecular biology techniques like enzyme activity assays and western blotting.

Your Qualifications:

  • Ongoing master’s studies in molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, or related fields
  • Experience with cell culture, flow cytometry and fluorescence microscopy is a plus
  • A keen interest in learning new techniques throughout the duration of the project (up to one year)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken)

What to Expect:

You will be closely integrated into a supportive team, including a young group leader and three postdocs. We offer a collaborative environment with a focus on international and multidisciplinary research. Our team values diversity and is committed to providing an enriching experience throughout your thesis work.

How to Apply:

If you’re interested in this opportunity, please send your CV, a letter of motivation, and references to Anne Miller at anne.miller(at)meduniwien.ac.at.
