Your Responsibilities

The Molecular Biology Service (MBS) at ISTA is active in the areas of protein and viral vector production, purification and characterization. To further expand our services we are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong background in biophysical characterization of recombinant proteins. We seek a personality that is eager to support scientists at ISTA in all matters of protein technologies and wants to add value to the whole campus as part of the MBS team.

• Work closely with scientists to plan experiments, develop assays, and provide analytical support in the field of biomolecular interactions, with focus on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) and Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC)

• Support available technologies for biophysical characterization of proteins, e.g., Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), Differential Scanning Fluorimetry (NanoDSF), Circular Dichroism (CD) and Multi-Angle Light Scattering (SEC-MALS)

• Maintain and operate facility equipment

• Provide training and support on facility equipment, establish training procedures where needed

• Document working procedures and results according to QC standards

• Support emerging technologies and optimize established systems

• Implement rules, guidelines and SOPs to enhance safety and streamline facility operations

Your Profile

• Advanced degree (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in Biochemistry, Biophysics or a similar field

• High level of theoretical understanding and proven working experience in the field of biomolecular interaction experiments, especially using SPR and ITC

• Advanced expert knowledge of the theoretical and technical principles of biophysical characterization of recombinant proteins incl. DLS, DSF, SEC-MALS and CD

• Proven practical experience in biophysical characterization of recombinant proteins

• In depth understanding and working knowledge of protein purification workflows including proficient usage of FPLC systems

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (Institutes working language); good knowledge of German is beneficial

• Service oriented working style with high conceptual and organizational skills

• Excellent team player who can also work independently
