The Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences (KL) is part of an academic and research community located at the Campus Krems, and includes a network of teaching hospitals in St. Pölten, Krems and Tulln. The university offers degree programs in Human Medicine and Psychology which are tailored to the requirements of the Bologna model, opening the door to new, cutting-edge health professions. KL is committed to raising its profile in specific areas of biomedicine, biomedical engineering, and biopsychosocial sciences by entering into strategic academic and research partnerships with other institutions.
The Division of Nutritional Sciences performs cutting-edge research on the modulatory effects of diet on health and disease, aiming to improve the quality of life of patients. We are combining fundamental and translational research efforts to find alternative therapies using preclinical models and clinical trials, elucidating novel immune mechanisms associated with nutritional compounds and the microbiome.
The Division of Pharmacology investigates the molecular mechanisms underlying tumor development and the interactions between tumor and immune cells. Using a variety of high-profile in vitro and in vivo approaches, we focus on components of cellular signaling pathways with particular emphasis on the Janus kinase/signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK/STAT) cascade in tumor development and immune responses.
