We recruit passionate professionals from all over the world and from all fields who support our goals of excellence in research and science management. Located on a beautiful campus on the outskirts of Vienna, we offer numerous opportunities for personal growth in a stable working environment. Get an insight!
Your responsibilities
The Ren group focuses on research in geometry, simulation, and computational inverse design. By developing computational methods, we can design shape-morphing structures that transfer the complexities of assembly, actuation, 3D shape approximation, and structural stability into their fabricated geometries. This newly created position will be centered around maintaining and customizing our experimental equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, CNC machines, robotic arms), but also providing experimental support to PhD students and Postdocs. We are looking for a proactive team member to support us with the following tasks:
• Taking a lead position in the laboratory and assuring the efficient running of the laboratory with focus on experimental setups, rapid prototyping, customizing equipment, and documentation
• Maintaining, optimizing and customizing of experimental equipment (3D printers, laser cutters, milling machines, CNC machines, robotic arms)
• Assistance in experimental setups and developing new fabrication techniques
• Training and experimental support for group members, e.g. usage of equipment
• Documentation, rendering, imaging and modelling, e.g. with Rhino 3D
• Collaborate with other research groups in the field of Computer Graphics and Soft Matter Physics to utilize other equipment such as universal testing machines
• Mediating interactions with our Scientific Service Units (e.g. Machine Shop) or external suppliers
Your profile
• Completed education in Architecture, Engineering, Digital Fabrication or any other relevant background
• Substantial practical experience with fabrication techniques and machines beyond industry standard
• Any previous experience in Digital Fabrication/Geometric Computing is beneficial
• Expertise in CAD software and 3D modeling tools (e.g. Rhino 3D, Grasshopper) and G-code programming for CNC machines and 3D printers
• A willingness to learn and an interest in computational design is essential
• Experience in scripting programming languages, such as Python
• A knowledge of numerical simulation and optimization tools is beneficial but not essential
• Proficiency in English, both oral and written
• High level of creativitiy combined with a solution-oriented approach
• Strong organizational skills, reliability and team-player attitude
• If the role interests you, even if you don’t meet all the criteria, we encourage you to apply
