Research Technician in Translational Immunology
The Stary Lab at the Department of Dermatology at Medical University of Vienna and CeMM – Research Center for Molecular Medicine, seeks to fill the open position of a Biomedical Assistant / Research Technician.
What are we working on?
Our group focuses on tissue-resident immune cells in health and diseases and their interaction with structural cells and pathogens. Our long-term goal is to understand cellular processes in the skin and mucosal membranes and apply our knowledge of tissue-resident immune cells to uncover novel therapeutic strategies for the treatment of inflammatory and infectious diseases.
The position:
Our group is looking for a highly motivated and well-organized Biomedical Assistant / Research Technician who will form an integral part of the team and will enable us to conduct daily laboratory tasks effectively. Our work comprises tissue processing, molecular biology techniques, cell culture, flow cytometry, microscopy, and lab management duties. This position is ideally suited for individuals who seek to participate in every aspect of laboratory activities, such as wet lab work, data analysis and administrative tasks. The successful applicant will also get opportunities to advance their scientific knowledge and receive the necessary training to design, conduct and interpret experiments.
Tasks and responsibilities include:
• Preparation of general reagents and refill material stocks
• Human tissue processing (PBMC isolation, skin digestion & purification of immune cell subsets, microtomy)
• Flow cytometry staining (FACS), acquisition and cell sorting
• Immunofluorescence staining and microscopy
• Establishment and propagation of primary human cells lines
• Biochemistry (SDS-PAGE, Western blotting)
• Molecular biology techniques (DNA/ RNA isolation, qPCR, cloning, virus production)
• Preparation of sequencing libraries (bulk/single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, etc.)
• Lab management (ordering and budgeting)
• Documentation and reporting of experiments and results
Requirements and desired qualifications:
• Minimum qualification: Bachelor degree in Life Sciences, or a TA/MTA/BMA or Ing. diploma
• Wet lab experience in molecular and cell biology techniques, cell culture
• Results-oriented, supportive and collaborative mindset
• Fluency in German and English

Our research group is part of the Department of Dermatology at the Medical University of Vienna, located within the Vienna General Hospital (Allgemeines Krankenhaus der Stadt Wien), one of Europe’s largest university hospitals, situated in the heart of the city.
