Your personal sphere of play:
We are excited to announce a Postdoc position in the Biochemical Network Analysis group, led by Jürgen Zanghellini at the Department of Analytical Chemistry. Our group uses mathematical modeling, high-performance computing, and data science to explore and understand cellular functions. We are renowned for our work in constraint-based modeling of microbial metabolism and applied research in biotechnology.
This position focuses on the computational modeling of microbial communities for the efficient production of methane. Your primary task will be developing computational tools to understand microbial community dynamics and the role of non-methanogenic organisms in supporting stable methane production.
Your future tasks:
We are seeking an ambitious scientist with expertise in computational systems biology, bioinformatics, data science, or mathematics. The successful candidate will actively contribute to research, teaching, and administrative activities, including:
• Developing an Independent Research Profile: Establish and lead your research projects.
• Research Participation: Engage in collaborative research projects, especially with industry partners.
• Publishing and Presenting: Publish in top international journals and present at conferences.
• Teaching: Conduct teaching activities as required by the collective bargaining agreement.
• Student Supervision: Mentor and supervise (Master’s) students.
• Quality Assurance: Participate in performance evaluation and quality assurance initiatives.
This is part of your personality:
Minimum Requirements:
• Ph.D.: In computational systems biology, bioinformatics, data science, or related fields.
• Teamwork and Communication Skills: Strong ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively.
• Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages, preferably Python or R.
• Publication Record: Proven ability to publish in top international journals.
• English Proficiency: Excellent spoken and written English skills.
Additional Qualifications:
• Constraint-Based Methods: Experience with constraint-based and resource allocation methods, especially in modeling microbial communities.
• Teaching Experience: Background in teaching and e-learning.
• Collaborative Projects: Experience in collaborative research with academic and industrial partners.
• Public Speaking: Experience giving talks and presentations.
