Ion-Surface-Interactions 6-year PostDoc

At the Institute of Applied Physics, in the Research Unit of Atomic and Plasma Physics, TU Wien is offering a position as university assistant (post-doc) limited to 6 years for 40 hours/week. Expected start: April 2024.
Tasks:
Deep interest in scientific problems and the motivation for independent and goal-oriented research in the subject of ion-surface-interactions
Independent teaching or participation in teaching and supervision of students
The ability to develop methods, concepts, as well as their realization and evaluation and the willingness to contribute in interdisciplinary scientific projects Participation in organizational and administrative tasks of the research division and the faculty
Research on an internationally competitive level
Attraction of third party funds and establishing contacts to industrial research partners
Your profile:
Doctorate in physics, nanotechnology, materials science or related fields and in-depth knowledge of the subject area
Ability to perform research independently
Experience in national and international research cooperation as well as in project management and scientific presentations Experience in writing of scientific publications
A benefit is experience in acquisition of third party funds and/or knowledge of the Austrian and European funding landscape
In-depth knowledge of the scientific areas of ion physics, surface physics, nanotechnology, surface chemistry, thin films, nuclear fusion or related fields
Experience in a few of the following topics is a plus: Ultrahigh vacuum technology, ion sources, charged particle optics, detectors for ions and electrons, analog and digital signal processing, quartz crystal microbalance, (ultrafast) lasers, surface analytics (AES, XPS, Ion Beam Analysis), simulations (Binary Collision Approximation, Molecular Dynamics, (Time-dependent) density functional theory), device control with Python or LabView
Experience in teaching as well as interest and pleasure in research and work/support with students in small teams in a laboratory setting
Organizational and analytical skills as well as a structured way of working
Excellent command of the English language and very good communicative skills and team competences,
German language skills are not a requirement. Effort in learning German is welcome and support to take dedicated language classes is available

Entry level salary is determined by the pay grade B1 of the Austrian collective agreement for university staff. This is a minimum of currently EUR 4,752.30/month gross, 14 times/year for 40 hours/week. Relevant working experiences may increase the monthly income.
