Microbiome Scientist (m/f/d) with focus on food quality & human health/wellbeing

Our Center for Health & Bioresources is looking for new Ingenious Partner for our location in Tulln (in immediate vicinity to Vienna). In the Center for Health & Bioresources we aim to solve challenges associated with demographic change, resource scarcity and environmental pollution and to develop innovative solutions, that enable early disease detection and support healthy and active aging.
As part of our Unit Bioresources you will be exploring soil, plant, and food microbiomes and their functions for novel application. Furthermore, you will be translating fundamental knowledge into innovative solutions, you will improve the food system and human health/wellbeing.
Your tasks:
- Together with our team, you will deepen the understanding of the role of microbiomes in the food system and develop innovative approaches to improve food production, food quality and human health/wellbeing by targeting microbiomes of food, food production and humans.
- You will be instrumental in expanding our knowledge and services portfolio into the area of human gut microbiome.
- You will be involved in national and international research projects as well as in customer-oriented research and contribute to our international positioning and visibility.
- With your innovative work you will obtain a further understanding on the functioning of food system microbiomes and their link to human health/wellbeing and translate knowledge into innovations.
- You will successfully acquire research projects, represent AIT in research networks and cooperate with international research institutions.
- Your publication activities in journals and presentations at conferences as well as your networking activities will contribute significantly to the international reputation of the team.
- You will represent a competent contact person for our customers and develop technical and scientific concepts out of their requirements.
- You will contribute to the ongoing development of the research and business strategy.
Your qualifications:
- Ph.D. in microbiology, molecular biology, food sciences or equivalent
- PostDoc experience mandatory
- Expertise in microbiome research, particularly on human (gut) microbiomes
- Experience with food and/or food production microbiomes advantageous Experience in successfully soliciting of external funding for R&D projects
- Good network in the international microbiome research field, particularly human microbiome
- Enthusiasm for creative solutions and innovations, application-oriented thinking
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; German knowledge is advantageous but no requirement
What to expect:
The minimum gross annual salary on a full-time basis (38,5 h / week) according to the collective agreement is EUR 57.890,-- The actual salary will be determined individually, based on your qualifications and experience.
