Palaeobotanist (m/w/d)
The Natural History Museum preserves, researches and presents its extensive collections in a building designed as a total work of art. It conveys the diversity of nature, the evolution of planet Earth and life, and the related cultural development of mankind, and offers an inspiring meeting place.
The earliest collections are over 250 years old. Today, some 30 million objects are under scientific care.
Your tasks
Curating the paleobotanical collection of the Geological-Paleontological Department at the NHMW;
Digitization and increase of accessibility and visibility;
Active participation in international digitization programs;
Supervision of scientific guests;
Scientific cataloging of the collection;
International cooperation;
Participation in exhibition projects;
Acquisition of third-party funding.
Our requirements
Completed dissertation in paleobotany (preferably with a focus on Mesozoic or Cenozoic floras) and post-doc experience;
Experience in the acquisition and organization of third-party funded projects;
Publications in international scientific journals;
H-index ≥ 6;
Good knowledge of stratigraphy and climate history of Eurasia;
Knowledge of German is desirable; if knowledge is poor, it is expected that language skills for everyday situations will be acquired in the first year;
Ability to work in a team;
Experience with collections is desirable;
Experience with digital data acquisition and data management is desirable.
