Abstract
Regarding the contemporary trend of event-orientation and the staging of actual lebensraum and virtual space,
performative spaces in between, places of encounter are of emerging interest. Venues, which enable experiences,
innovative approaches and experiment have enormous social, cultural and political potentials. Integrative staging is
about scenografic interventions in the "expanded space" (Wetzel). As an interdisciplinary term integrative staging is
meant to be an opportunity of describing a certain set in the cultural field: the organization of space, its mise-en-
scène in physical and symbolical terms and the dynamic process-orientated options of acting it faciliates.
Integrative staging is fathoming new "hybrid space related modes of action" (Meurer) and the staging of processes
of participation. The attention is drawn to spaces and objects and their potential of immersion. Integrative staging
follows an anthropocentric approach. It is offering temporary laboratories of experience and favouring collective
acting. Divjak approaches the topic enfolding a phenomenological discourse and philosophical, sociological and
cultural historical reflexions focusing space. He introduces examples of integrative staging (in the context of
theatre, cultural education in the museum and fine arts) and analyzes modes of staging and concepts of organizing
space, in order to adress audiences as players.
